Book: THE INDEPENDENT HOME by Michael Potts

THE INDEPENDENT HOME

Living Well with Power from the Sun, Wind, and Water
by Michael Potts

If you are wanting to know more about living off- the- grid or generally becoming less dependent on the power company, this book is an excellent starting point. It contains interesting stories about how others have built their independent homes and in the process teaches some basic concepts, such as the meaning of things like "phantom loads." These are electrical appliances that use (or waste) power even when they are "off." It is not too technical, so you don't have to be an engineer or technician to read and understand it. Even the "technical stuff" that is in the book is explained in very basic, simple terms for the lay person to understand.
